Born in 1962, he did his M.A. and his Ph.D. in Urdu at Calcutta University, his dissertation being on the life & works of Upendranath Ashk. He is one of the famed Urdu writers of the country who is a poet, lyricist and a journalist who specialises in Ghazal & Nazm, Geet, Rubai and Qatats. Also in fiction (short story) as well as writes essays in Urdu and Hindi for national & international magazines.

His published books are KASAK (poetry), PLATFORM TICKET (short stories). His poetry also forms a Music Album, SHAB-E-GHAM (geets & ghazals) sung by Adhir Bagchi. And he has been extensively awarded, his awards include those by Howrah Writers Association, West Bengal Urdu Academy, Sahitya Manjari, etc.
